“When I have been listened to and when I have been heard, I am able to re-perceive my world in a new way and to go on”
Carl Rogers
What is Person-Centred Therapy?
Person-centred therapy is an approach to talking therapy that is centred on the belief that the only expert on you is you, and that each of us have the potential to grow, heal and thrive when given the right conditions to do so. A person-centred therapist strives to create these conditions, by offering compassion, acceptance of all experience, empathy, genuineness and attentive listening. It is my belief and experience that these offerings, combined with your commitment to show up for yourself, are enough to not only bring healing, but to instil real change.
Every therapy relationship is unique. For some, it is about sharing and working through difficult past experiences, and understanding how they might still be affecting the present. For others, the focus is on looking ahead and working with your therapist to find the way forward that feels right for you. Often, it is a process of moving through a vague or persistent sense of unease or “stuckness” in life. And most often of all, it is a combination of all of these things. Whatever you bring to therapy, your experience is valid and welcome here and you are worthy of support.
Laura Wray Therapy is committed to offering person-centred therapy that is:
Inclusive and safe for people of all races, cultures, bodies, genders, relationship constellations, sexual orientations and belief systems
Non-pathologising and trauma-informed, moving away from “what is wrong with you"? and towards “what have you experienced?”
Tailored to your needs, because the only expert on you is you
Interactive and communicative, the therapist being active and present in the relationship, and not merely a passive listener
Transparent and clear, removing mystery and uncertainty from the therapy process
